Niger has recovered more than CFA74 billion (US$130.5 million) in illicit assets since the establishment of the Commission for Combating Economic, Financial and Tax Crimes (COLDEFF) in September 2023.
The recoveries reflect the country’s ongoing efforts to strengthen governance, combat financial crime, and restore misappropriated public resources.
The latest cash recovery figures exclude shares and real estate assets, indicating that the total value of recovered assets could be higher.
The commission noted that its previous report released in August 2025 recorded more than CFA63.8 billion in recovered cash and over CFA5 billion in real estate assets.
He emphasized that the commission operates under legal provisions that protect the identities of individuals under investigation while focusing on recovering illicit assets through financial sanctions within Niger’s legal framework.
