The Right to Information Commission has sanctioned more than 250 public institutions, including the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), Minerals Commission and Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), for failing to submit their 2025 Right to Information annual reports.
Each institution has been fined GH¢20,000 for failing to meet the reporting obligation required under Section 77(1) of the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989).
Among the institutions named are the National Petroleum Authority, Minerals Commission, Ghana Grid Company Limited, Ghana Railway Company Limited, Ghana Tourism Development Company, Tema Oil Refinery, Volta Aluminium Company Limited and Metro Mass Transit Limited.
The commission said the failure of institutions to submit annual RTI reports affects its ability to prepare a comprehensive report for Parliament on the implementation of the law.
It reiterated that public institutions are legally required to provide accountability through proper reporting and disclosure practices.
