Many school districts are beginning to take steps to develop green schoolyards on their campuses. Check out the Children & Nature Network’s Greening Schoolyards webpage for ideas on how to take green schoolyards from dream to reality, from starting the conversation, planning, funding and providing ongoing maintenance. One opportunity: U.S. Sen. Mark Heinrich and U.S. Rep. Summer Lee have introduced the Revitalizing America’s Schoolyards Act (RSYA) (S.4258 / H.R. The Outdoors Alliance for Kids (OAK) coalition, with the Children & Nature Network’s support, is spearheading the advocacy effort. Finally, if you would like a 1:1 discussion about this legislation or green schoolyards generally, please contact David Beard at david@childrenandnature.org.
