PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — Portsmouth City Council will take up three pieces of legislation at its Monday meeting, including formal acceptance of a state brownfield remediation grant, a lease of a city park to a Sciotoville youth sports league and a cooperative agreement with the Scioto County Engineer’s office, according to a city manager’s conference agenda the city posted to Facebook. Mike DeWine’s administration awarded Portsmouth more than $400,000 in brownfield remediation money through the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program for asbestos abatement and demolition of two long-vacant commercial buildings at 802 and 804 Chillicothe St. in downtown Portsmouth, with plans to redevelop the site for community housing. Council already approved a separate city appropriation of matching funds for planning and design of that housing project in July. Portsmouth City Council holds its regular meetings at 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of each month in council chambers at City Hall, 500 Chillicothe St., according to the city.
