In looking to capture the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll, Eddie and the Cruisers (1983) does remarkably well. In the movie, the song is by the titular Eddie and the Cruisers. Cafferty and the Beaver Band provide the music, and Eddie (Michael Pare) leads the band through the performances via lip sync. It’s telling that Jim Morrison is referenced early on, and Eddie reads poetry from Rimbaud, one of Morrison’s key philosophical influences. For those who want to know, well, there’s always 1989’s Eddie and Cruisers II: Eddie Lives!
