It’s unclear if Lauren Reitz will enter the sweepstakes to call football plays for Akron, but she does plan on playing basketball for the Zips next season. The North Catholic rising senior announced a verbal commitment to Akron on Thursday. A 6-foot-2 forward from Murrysville, she chose the Zips over offers from Stone Hill and Maryland Baltimore County. Reitz averaged 9.2 points and 7.0 rebounds last season for the Trojanettes (22-7), who reached the WPIAL 4A semifinals and PIAA quarterfinals. Reitz plays AAU for the Western PA Bruins, an organization that carries a reputation for churning out Division I prospects, which helped in her recruiting.
