A former teacher imprisoned with her 2-year-old daughter over alleged links to the faith-based Gülen movement was released on Monday, nearly nine months after the Constitutional Court ruled that her rights had been violated, the TR724 news website reported.
In its November 2025 ruling, the Constitutional Court found that the lower courts had failed to adequately explain in reasoned decisions how Emine Sarıoğlu’s lawful activities constituted evidence of membership in a terrorist organization.
It ruled that her right to a reasoned judgment had been violated and ordered a retrial.
Nearly nine months later, the Malatya 1st High Criminal Court accepted Sarıoğlu’s request for a retrial, suspended the execution of her sentence and ordered her release.
The execution of her sentence was postponed for 18 months because of her pregnancy at the time.
