House martins and swallows build delicate mud nests beneath the eaves of houses but when there’s very little, or no, rain, those nests dry out, crack and collapse.
“It’s a totally different experience from a few years back when I was getting maybe 30 or 40 house martins.
Baby Beaks Garden Bird Rescue opened in April 2021 as a not-for-profit organisation and a hobby.
More than 80% of the birds Lorraine takes in are eventually released back into the wild – a figure she is quietly proud of.
“If they go on to have babies, and their babies have babies, that’s quite a legacy.”
