In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr. L. Murugan said the scheme covers journalists accredited by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) and State/UT Governments, as well as non-accredited journalists. The Minister stated that under JWS, the government has disbursed financial assistance of ₹19 crore 41 lakh to 456 media personnel or their families between 2014-15 and 2025-26. Dr. Murugan further informed that PIB-accredited journalists are also entitled to Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) facilities across the country for themselves and their family members. This includes treatment at government hospitals and CGHS empaneled private hospitals at CGHS rates. The Press Information Bureau issues accreditation to journalists in the National Capital Region.
