NET Web DeskThe Meghalaya High Court has directed the police to consolidate five criminal cases filed against Trinamool Congress leader S G Esmatur Mominin over alleged hate speeches delivered during the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections. Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere issued the order while disposing of four petitions submitted by the former MLA. Mominin had initially sought quashing of the FIRs but later amended his plea to request that they be merged with the first case registered at Araimile police station. The cases, lodged at Araimile and Phulbari police stations in West Garo Hills, involve alleged violations under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Meghalaya Maintenance of Public Order (MMPO) Act. The court held that since the FIRs stemmed from the same cause of action, they should be clubbed together to avoid multiplicity of proceedings.
