The university board disputed those allegations and sought to work around the setback by naming Bell as interim leader on June 22. Shinn replaced Seth Bodnar, who abruptly stepped down as the university's president in January amid rumors he would run for U.S. Senate. But on July 6, Guskiewicz recommitted to MSU and told the campus community he had "productive conversations" with leaders of the public university's board about concerns he had raised in his initial departure letter.
