York and North Yorkshire’s deputy mayor for policing and crime, Jo Coles, said that North Yorkshire Police was taking retail crime “really seriously”.

Ms Coles said North Yorkshire Police was taking retail crime “really seriously” and that there had been “two retail crime symposiums really bringing partners together to ensure everyone is doing everything they can”.
“The mayor and I are continuing to hold NYP closely to account on retail crime.”
NYCIn July, North Yorkshire Police said that “with the summer months, there comes an increase in retail crime, street crime and anti-social behaviour across Scarborough – this includes more shop thefts, street-drinkers, and generalised anti-social behaviour”.
