The Red Pyramid is located roughly 15 to 25 miles south of Cairo. However, the structures have never been excavated or securely dated, meaning their connection to the Red Pyramid remains an extraordinary but unproven theory. The hydraulic system may also have included a long diversion canal running beside the Red Pyramid. The researchers do not claim that water power or barges definitively built the Red Pyramid. Until then, it remains possible that the formations were created before the Red Pyramid, during its construction or centuries afterward.
