Andy Welinski, a Duluth native and former Duluth East Greyhound and UMD Bulldog, has landed a new coaching job. Welinski was hired as an assistant coach for the Waterloo Black Hawks of the USHL, joining the staff led by Superior native Brett Olson, who became head coach in May. The defenseman was a 2011 draft pick of the Anaheim Ducks, playing 46 NHL games across three seasons, with one goal and five assists. He also served as UMD’s captain during the 2015-16 season, finishing his college career with 77 points in 154 games with the Bulldogs. The move marks a new chapter for Welinski as he transitions from playing to coaching.
