BISMARCK — The North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality has issued a harmful algal bloom advisory for Lake Ilo in Dunn County, increasing the number of waterbodies under active harmful algal bloom advisories or warnings across the state to eight. Harmful algal blooms, also known as HABs or blue-green algae, can develop rapidly during periods of warm, sunny weather. As of Thursday, active advisories remain in effect for Devils Lake in Ramsey and Benson counties, Lake Brekken in McLean County, Lake Darling in Renville County, Lake Tschida in Grant County and Lake Ilo in Dunn County. Warnings remain in place for Bowman-Haley Dam in Bowman County, South Golden Lake in Steele County and Warsing Dam in Eddy County. Suspected harmful algal blooms can be reported to the department by phone, email or through its online reporting system.
