Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service were called at 10.38am on Thursday to reports of a tractor and field fire in Withersfield, near Haverhill. On arrival, crews from Bury St Edmunds, Haverhill, Clare, Long Melford and Newmarket found eight acres of stubble and straw affected. Firefighters used hose reel jets and beaters to bring the fire under control. A spokesman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said that the local farmer supported efforts to put a firebreak in place. No casualties were reported and a stop was called at 12.03pm.
