Polls currently show that 70 percent of Americans oppose local construction of AI data centers, with 63 percent of Republicans and 75 percent of Democrats against them. In Texas, 80 percent support taxing electricity used by AI data centers, and 60 percent are concerned about energy consumption, 56 percent about water use, and 51 percent about land impact. Even conservative Republicans (53 percent) are more likely to oppose data centers than moderate Republicans (44 percent), signaling a fracture in the GOP’s traditional pro-growth coalition. Furthermore, data centers have shown no meaningful impact on electricity prices.
