According to the anti-graft agency, the investigation began in March 2026 and focuses on the alleged mismanagement of Ecology Funds, Intervention Funds, and Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) allocations. As part of the probe, several senior officials of the state government, including the Accountant General, have already been questioned. The EFCC explained that it initially had no plans to place a Post No Debit (PND) order on the state's accounts. Responding to claims that the action was politically motivated because of the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State, the EFCC dismissed the allegation, stressing that elections cannot stop it from carrying out its constitutional duty. The agency maintained that ignoring suspicious financial transactions simply because an election is approaching would have been irresponsible and a betrayal of its mandate to safeguard public funds.
