Nigerian author Jerry Falade has seen a publishing deal worth more than $2 million collapse after allegations surfaced that artificial intelligence may have been used in writing or editing his debut crime novel, Call Me, I’ll Hide the Body.
Macmillan U.S.'s Minotaur imprint was reportedly set to publish the book before the deal unexpectedly fell apart.
Falade's literary agents later withdrew the manuscript, explaining that they could no longer confidently confirm that AI had not played a role in the book's development.
However, they later said they were unable to verify how the work evolved from its original draft to the final version.
Falade has strongly denied the allegations, insisting that neither he nor his editor used artificial intelligence in creating the novel.
