A 27-year-old footballer died following injuries sustained during a violent robbery attempt near his residence in Kampala, Uganda on Tuesday night. David Owori, captain of Sports Club Villa, was ambushed by a group of assailants as he approached his home in the Makindye suburb. SC Villa's spokesperson described Owori as having been ambushed by criminals, sustaining life-threatening trauma that necessitated emergency medical intervention. The Federation of Uganda Football Association characterised him as a leader both on and off the pitch, describing him as an inspiration to his generation. Uganda's national football team, known as The Cranes, acknowledged the loss of a figure who represented the aspirations of the nation.
