Figures released by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council reveal that around 700 throw lines have had to be replaced since the safety devices were first installed in March 2023. The worst-hit location is the Omagh Riverside Walk and Cycle Path, where approximately £8,500 has been spent replacing vandalised throw lines since March 2025 alone. Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Debbie Coyle, described the level of vandalism as "extremely concerning", particularly along the Omagh Riverside Walk and Cycle Path. She said the replacement of 248 throw lines in just 16 months meant there had been hundreds of occasions when lifesaving equipment may not have been available when it was needed most. These throw lines are lifesaving devices that could mean the difference between life and death for a friend, family member, neighbour, or even the person removing them.
