Lancashire CCA remains unable to decide whether to adopt a mayor despite the government’s renewed push for mayoral devolution. During community secretary Angela Rayner’s first tenure at the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government last February, she pledged that Lancashire would have a mayor by 2026. Opposition from ReformIts constituent members are Reform-led Lancashire CC, which has two constituent representatives, alongside Labour-led unitaries: Blackpool Council and Blackburn with Darwen BC. Cllr Atkinson also expressed scepticism around mayoral precepts and whether residents would see cost benefits to paying this. “I personally can’t imagine any reason at all why Lancashire would not get what is now becoming the standard deal,” he said.
