Smoove & Turrell - Rother Street Arts House, Stratford 25th JulyWell, this was a treat. As previewed in the Herald’s FocusLife magazine, long championed by Craig Charles and with years of gigs and albums already behind them, Smoove & Turrell brought the soul and funk to Rother Street Arts House with a dancefloor detonating boom. Billed as the Singles tour, it hit Stratford on a warm Saturday night; expectation high, anticipation thick in the air, and all bad vibes to be left at the door. These guys know their instruments and it’s written all over their grinning faces how much they love to play. Things were brought to a thunderous finale with the devastating 1-2 KO of Beggarman and You Could’ve Been a Lady setting up a show closing version of Spencer Davis Group’s I’m a Man, and a thoroughly deserved ovation from a very appreciative Arts House audience.
