Simpson County earns National Weather Service StormReady designationShare This StoryemailPrintLinkedinRedditFRANKLIN, Ky. (WNKY) – Simpson County has officially been recognized as a National Weather Service StormReady community, a designation that acknowledges the county’s commitment to severe weather preparedness and public safety.
The recognition comes after Simpson County Emergency Management completed a detailed application process documenting its emergency operations, warning systems and public outreach efforts.
Emergency Management Director Robert Palmer said the process was largely about demonstrating procedures already in place rather than creating new ones.
Palmer said the designation gives residents added confidence that emergency information distributed by his office is accurate and based on trusted National Weather Service guidance rather than unofficial sources.
He said the National Weather Service encouraged communities across Kentucky to pursue the designation over the past several years, prompting Simpson County to begin the application process.
