Debora Kapisha, the registered nurse detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recently at Boston Logan International Airport, has been released from ICE custody and is on her way home to Maine.
Kapisha is a medical-surgical nurse at Maine Med and, according to coworkers, is a first-year nurse and a beloved colleague on her unit.
Her union has been coordinating with her attorneys for her release and Maine Med nurses are demanding their employer sponsor her permanent residency.
Maine State Nurses Association is part of National Nurses Organizing Committee, representing 4,000 nurses and other caregivers from Portland to Fort Kent.
NNOC is an affiliate of National Nurses United, the largest and fastest-growing labor union of registered nurses in the United States with more than 225,000 members nationwide.
