The Punjab government has decided to introduce fines for motorcyclists riding without side-view mirrors and indicatorsas part of efforts to improve road safety and reduce traffic accidents across the province.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi said the traffic police has also proposed that motorcycle manufacturers revise their designs to ensure the permanent installation of side-view mirrors on all motorcycles.
Traffic police officials said the absence of side-view mirrors and functional indicators is among the major causes of road accidents, as riders are unable to safely change lanes or alert other road users while turning.
Under the proposed changes, motorcyclists found operating vehicles without the required safety equipment could face fines once the legal amendments are approved and implemented.
The initiative is part of the provincial government’s broader road safety strategy aimed at improving compliance with traffic regulations and reducing the number of motorcycle-related accidents.
