James Jackson, 36, pleaded guilty to striking the man with a metallic pole during a confrontation outside the One Stop shop on April 5. The court was told shop staff pressed a panic button after spotting Jackson stealing cans of alcohol from the store. Prosecutor Chelsea Martin explained Jackson appeared intoxicated when he first entered the One Stop shop on High Street at around 7pm, and stole cans of alcohol before exiting the premises. He pointed out Jackson had been remanded in custody for the past four months – the equivalent of an eight-month jail sentence. He was also banned from entering the One Stop shop for the next three years.
