Gretchen Whitmer has been the governor of Michigan for nearly eight years, and by most measures things have gotten worse in the state. Released today, the 2024 National Assessment of Educational Progress shows Michigan fourth and eighth graders continue to lag the national average. Michigan students’ average score was lower in reading than the last time the test was administered, in 2022. Math scores were up for fourth graders in Michigan but fell among eighth graders. Nearly eight years into Whitmer's terms as governor, now she's advising voters who will make things better.
