The European Commission has confirmed it is weighing additional financial support for Spain to deal with the migration crisis in Ceuta, after receiving a first needs assessment from the Spanish authorities.
Any money would come on top of what the European Union had already mobilised, according to the spokesman.
It could pay for border management equipment and services as well as humanitarian and medical assistance.
Support could also be channelled through EU agencies, including Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, and the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA).
Frontex is already running a joint operation in Spain with officers deployed to support border management.
