Pope Benedict XVI once said the Transfiguration of Jesus prepared his apostles for “the coming scandal of the cross.” At the Transfiguration, Peter, James, and John witnessed a transformative moment that reflects the life of the Christian called to his or her own transfiguration. Christ’s transfiguration inspired more faith in the apostles, giving them the strength to face the cross. Ultimately, faith in Christ and his own transfiguration leads the Christian’s life to be transfigured. On this year’s feast of the Transfiguration, Pope Leo XIV was in Assisi, Italy, with thousands of young people from across Europe who gathered for GO!, the 2026 Franciscan Youth Meeting.
