Preston Tower Primary School applied for £584 in order to take 102 primary seven schoolchildren to hear from authors at the iconic literary festival. While talks at the event cost £4 per pupil, transport to and back from the festival is estimated at about £640, with the school seeking financial support for the trip. Andrew Stevenson, community councillor, said: "We should be encouraging this given the fact it is a literacy effort, so it is important to support." The town's community council unanimously agreed to award the school the full amount of funding requested, despite being above their typical cap of £500.
