Iconic British die-cast model manufacturer Corgi celebrated its 70th anniversary with a landmark exhibition at the Coventry Transport Museum on 6 and 7 August. Founded in 1956 by the Mettoy Company in Swansea, Wales, Corgi revolutionized the toy market as “the ones with the windows,” pioneering windshields, spring suspension, and opening components. The Coventry showcase displayed defining historical releases, including the original Ford Consul, the 1965 Goldfinger DB5, the 267 Batmobile, and inaugural Vanguard and Aviation Archive pieces. Corgi also unveiled new models, including a Star Trek 60th anniversary edition, updated James Bond DB5 and Valhalla releases, and its first-ever Ford GT40 replica. Guy Stainthorpe, MD for the Corgi Brand, noted that the anniversary celebrates seven decades of British craftsmanship, shared memories, and enduring appeal across generations of collectors.
