Aecom has been appointed by Transport for London (TfL) to deliver a feasibility study for the depots and sidings required to facilitate the Bakerloo Line Upgrade (BLU), marking one of the first steps towards the rollout of a new fleet of trains on the London Underground line. The appointment forms part of the feasibility, planning and optioneering work needed to enable the introduction of new rolling stock on the Bakerloo line, replacing the existing fleet that first entered service in 1972. Aecom rail director for London and the South East Shadi Shekarrizi said: “This is a significant milestone in the Bakerloo Line Upgrade programme and the next step towards improving efficiency, capacity and connectivity across the line. Aecom has also previously been selected, alongside WW+P Architects, to provide design services on four new London Underground stations as part of the proposed Bakerloo Line Extension, which is intended to extend the line further into south east London. Last year, the company was also appointed lead designer on the first stage of TfL’s Elephant & Castle Station Capacity Upgrade.
