University insists development 'lawful' as beloved cafe future uncertain

The future of Common Ground in the city centre's Little Clarendon Street remains uncertain over university plans to redevelop Wellington Square.

Stephanie Weeks, a partner at Carter Jonas on behalf of Oxford University, said: "It is important background that Common Ground commenced occupation of the unit initially as a café on a temporary basis.
Mr Weeks acknowledged the venues as being "valued facilities" within the community, adding the Oxford University "fully understands the strength of feeling" already shown.
Carfax and Jericho city councillor Sushila Dhall has joined the hundreds of concerned people who do not want Common Ground to be forced out.
