Ukrainian drones struck the Slavneft-Yanos oil refinery in Russia's Yaroslavl region overnight on Aug. 6, sparking a large fire, President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed. The strike is part of a monthslong Ukrainian effort to degrade Russia's oil refining capacity through long-range drone attacks, which have pushed the sector to its lowest output levels in more than two decades, according to Euromaidan Press. Yaroslavl's governor said the region intercepted its largest-ever drone attack overnight, while Ukrainian officials confirmed a second refinery was also hit hundreds of miles away in Bashkortostan. Yaroslavl region Governor Mikhail Yevrayev said the region faced its largest-ever drone attack overnight, saying air defense and electronic warfare units intercepted the raid. Yevrayev did not mention the fire at Slavneft-Yanos in his public statement, according to the Moscow Times.
