Proposed Florida property tax measure could reduce funding for children's programs across the state

A proposed property tax measure that Florida voters will consider in November could provide homeowners with a larger homestead exemption but also reduce funding for children's programs that many South Florida families rely on.
Currently, those services are provided at no cost to her family through programs funded by the Children's Services Council of Broward County.
While the proposal would reduce taxable property values for many homeowners, it could also decrease property tax revenue collected by local governments and independent taxing districts.
In Broward County, approximately 13 cents of every property tax dollar collected supports special districts, including the Children's Services Council.
Juarez Stouffer says about 99% of the council's funding comes from property tax revenue, leaving few alternatives if collections decline.
