Although many expected Hughes to end up with one of two Eastern Conference contenders, the Wild ultimately emerged as the surprise destination.
NHL Insider Gives Worrying Update On Former Vancouver Canucks Captain Quinn Hughes’ Future With WildThe latest update on Hughes from NHL Insider Keith Kavanaugh indicated that it’s now a matter of “if” he signs an extension, as opposed to “when”.
“The sentiment I’d say a month ago was not if he’s going to sign this extension, but when he’s going to sign this extension with Minnesota, and now it almost feels like it’s shifted a little bit to if.”
In return for Hughes, who had been their captain, the Canucks received forwards Marco Rossi and Liam Ohgren, defenseman Zeev Buium, as well as a first-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.
