Marrakech plans to build a citywide network of 14 dedicated bicycle routes under its “Marrakech, Sustainable City” initiative, backed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), according to Moroccan news outlet Le Desk. The project calls for a network of dedicated bike lanes connecting the city’s main arteries through continuous, clearly marked, and protected cycling routes. The initiative is part of Marrakech’s broader efforts to expand sustainable transportation, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, and make the city more livable. Authorities have allocated MAD 7.7 million for planning and design. The funding will cover engineering studies, technical assistance, and project planning needed to develop an integrated bicycle network that meets urban planning and road safety standards.
