Royal Gendarmerie officers detained Abdelfattah Zerdi, the National Rally of Independents (RNI) president of the Benslimane Provincial Council, after an alleged hit-and-run crash that injured four people early Thursday, sources told Barlamane.com. The crash occurred around 4 a.m. on Regional Road 322 between Casablanca’s Aïn Sebaâ and Mohammedia city. Zerdi, who was allegedly intoxicated at the time, drove an Audi into a moped and a Volkswagen Passat that had already stopped on the roadside following an earlier crash. Emergency crews took the moped’s driver and passenger, along with two Passat passengers, to Moulay Abdellah Hospital in Mohammedia with minor injuries. Prosecutors ordered officers to place Zerdi in custody pending an investigation.
