Network Rail Wales has said repairs between Cardiff and Newport are on track to be completed by Friday evening, with a normal train service able to resume from Saturday, August 8. In an update posted on X, Network Rail Wales said: “We’re on track to complete repairs between Cardiff and Newport by Friday evening, with normal train service able to resume from Saturday 8 August. The disruption followed a fire next to the track between Newport and Cardiff Central on Saturday, August 1. Routes impacted included Great Western Railway services between London Paddington and Swansea or Carmarthen, Transport for Wales services between Manchester Piccadilly and west Wales, and trains between Newport and Ebbw Vale Town. Passengers were also told they could use some local bus services at no extra cost, including Stagecoach routes X24 and 23 between Newport and Pontypool via Cwmbran, and Cardiff Bus route 30 between Cardiff and Newport.
