According to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Construction Monitor for the second quarter of 2026, a net balance of three per cent of Welsh respondents reported an increase in overall construction activity. Areas showing improvement included private housebuilding and other public works, with net balances of 13 per cent and 12 per cent respectively. Surveyors are now more optimistic, with a net balance of 19 per cent expecting workloads to rise over the next 12 months, up from five per cent in the previous quarter. Jayne Rowland Evans of GKR Maintenance & Building Co Ltd in Caerphilly said: "There is a lack of tenders. Skills shortages are intensifying, with 65 per cent of Welsh respondents reporting a lack of quantity surveyors, up from 55 per cent in the previous quarter.
