A Dhaka court on Thursday approved a seven-day remand for former joint secretary Syed Jaglul Pasha in a case filed over allegations of attempting to murder former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia with “deadly pepper spray,” and obstructing her movement with trucks positioned next to her residence. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Didarul Alam passed the order after police produced him before the court, said public prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruqui. Earlier on Wednesday, Gulshan Zonal Team Police Inspector Md Anwar Hossain produced the accused before the court with a 10-day remand petition. The court later sent the accused to jail and set Thursday for hearing on the remnad plea. According to the case documents, the accused allegedly gathered outside Begum Khaleda Zia’s residence in Gulshan on 28 December 2013 while carrying deadly weapons.
