Spears showed professionalism after receiving the news rather than attempting to explain the private circumstances behind her breakup with Timberlake. Spears did not emerge from her trailer, and choreographer Brian Friedman warned the director that something serious had happened. He told Spears that he understood if she wanted to end the shoot early. Spears also wrote in her 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me, that Timberlake ended their relationship through a text message.
