Two Iranian Female Footballers Granted Australian Citizenship After Protest
['The Whistler']

Two former Iranian footballers say they’re overwhelmed with pride after finally being handed Australian citizenship, months after being branded traitors back home for daring to skip Iran’s national anthem before a match.
Fatemeh Pasandideh and Atefeh Ramezanisadeh were among seven players from Iran’s delegation who begged Australia for protection following the bold protest at the women’s Asian Cup in March.
Not Pasandideh and Ramezanisadeh though – the pair held their ground and were officially sworn in as Australian citizens at a Wednesday ceremony overseen by Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke.
I feel proud and deeply grateful to become an Australian citizen,” Ramezanisadeh gushed.
