Retired U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Bert Mizusawa won the GOP’s nomination to challenge longtime Democratic U.S. Sen. Mark Warner, while incumbent Republican Rep. John J. McGuire will now face former 5th District Democratic Rep. Tom S.P. Mizusawa edged out opponents in Prince Edward County, while Williams ended with a slight lead in both Buckingham and Cumberland counties. In Prince Edward County, McGuire garnered 1,010 votes (88.67%), while Lucero received 129 votes (11.33%). In the three-way Democratic primary, Perriello received 29,549 votes in the 5th District unofficial total as of Wednesday, followed by Krzyzanowski at 5,327 and Tracinski with 2,130 votes. Perriello carried Prince Edward County with 569 votes (73.48%), followed by Krzyzanowski at 137 (17.70%) and Tracinski with 68 votes (8.8%).
