The book celebrates his Ullrich Shoe Repair, once a hub of Downtown Pittsburgh, now a storefront in Bethel Park. He also started working with his future wife, Diane Putaro, at her family’s shop, Ullrich Shoe Repair. In 1934, Ullrich Shoe Repair apparently opened in Downtown Pittsburgh, judging from a 1948 ad in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about the shop’s 14 years there. About 1958, her family bought Ullrich Shoe Repair and kept its name. A shoe gets a new sole at Ullrich Shoe Repair.
