Major scholarly publishers report ‘strong’ financial results

Higher article submissions drive revenue and adjusted profit growth at Springer Nature and Elsevier parentTwo of the world’s largest scholarly publishing companies, Springer Nature and Relx, have reported strong financial results for the first half of the year, including increased adjusted operating profits in their publishing segments.
On 5 August, Springer Nature reported half-year underlying revenue and adjusted operating profit growth of 6.2 per cent and 7.7 per cent respectively for the whole company, and of 7.2 per cent and 8.2 per cent for its research segment.
Total revenue and adjusted operating profit rose to €940 million and €246m, with figures for the research segment of €748m and €229m.
