Pressures in hospitals and falling public satisfaction in social care report

A draft report shows emergency admissions, delayed hospital discharges and several patient experience measures all deteriorated during 2025/26, reflecting what officials describe as sustained pressure across health and social care services.
The performance report shows unscheduled hospital admissions increased by 3.5 per cent during 2025, while delayed discharge bed days rose by 22.2 per cent.
Delayed discharge bed days rose by 22.2 per cent.
But emergency admission rates increased, fewer adults with intensive care needs received support at home, and the proportion of regulated care services graded “good” or better fell by more than 11 percentage points.
Results from Scotland’s health and care experience survey also showed fewer people supported at home felt they were being helped to live independently or believed services were well coordinated.
