Allison Russell, In the Hour of Chaos (Fantasy)Montreal-born singer-songwriter Allison Russell applies a light touch to songs about redemption and healing in dark times.
She also manages to make her delicate balance of folk, blues, R&B and experimental edges flow easily.
For me, In the Hour of Chaos is at its best during the middle three tracks (and the album closer), when the conventions of roots music are exchanged for more sparse production and warped soundscapes.
