The Devon swimmers- Nik Haynes, Olly White, Ross Szender and Adam Tapp- will tackle the crossing in a medley order, each specialising in a different stroke: backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle. "Otherwise, we have been doing as much swimming as we can manage on our own, most days either in the pool or in the sea. "We have tried to simulate crossing by swimming for an hour then waiting for three hours, then getting back in again." Ross recently lost his mother to cancer just weeks after her diagnosis, and the team is raising funds for Hospiscare Devon, who supported the family in her final days. The swimmers are covering around £6,000 of the cost of the attempt themselves, ensuring that all donations go directly to Hospiscare.
